Secret Tips for Firecracker Fun Pretzels

1. Use gel-based food coloring: If you’re tinting white chocolate or candy melts, gel food coloring gives vibrant results without thinning out the coating. Liquid coloring can make chocolate seize.
2. Add coconut oil or shortening to candy melts: A teaspoon of coconut oil helps candy melts coat more smoothly and gives your pretzels a glossy finish. It also makes dipping faster and easier.
3. Decorate fast while the coating is wet: Candy melts and white chocolate set quickly—especially in air-conditioned kitchens. Sprinkle while still wet so decorations actually stick (and don’t fall off in the container).
4. Roll, don’t shake: Instead of shaking sprinkles over the pretzels, gently roll each one in a shallow dish of sprinkles for fuller coverage and less mess.
5. Use tall cups for dipping: Pour melted coating into a tall glass or mason jar instead of a shallow bowl. It gives you a clean, deep dip and evenly coats more of the pretzel.
6. Dry standing up for perfect presentation: Place each dipped pretzel in a tall glass (sprinkle side up) to set. This avoids flat spots and keeps the decoration uniform on all sides.
7. Keep hands cool: If you’re making a big batch, run your hands under cold water and dry them thoroughly between rounds to keep your body heat from softening the chocolate or smudging the sprinkles.
